LETTERS TO KARA

Who is Kara?
Kara is my journal of 14 years, named after the heroine of Scott O' Dell's book, the Island of the Blue Dolphins. In 1998, parts of my journal were published in my first book, Kara: Letters and Stories. Four years ago, Kara, which also means face in Filipino was published online here. The journal, like my life, is undergoing change. This is only a continuum.

Just Yesterday
Long Long Ago
Inspiration
Desperation
Kindred Spirits

I Wish to Watch You Sleep
(an offshoot of Rilke)

I wish to watch you sleep...
...and then to watch again as you awakened
with the dawn

I wish to watch your eyes
light up in laughter
in the middle of
one particular joke
we shared
and shared
and shared
in the daily lifetimes that
we would make.

I wish that I could envelop you
in the scents of baking bread
or cooking rice
or cleaning house
and in those delicate memories
to share with you
wonders of all things new
and all things ancient

and everything would feel the same
because I had watched you sleep
and you watched as I awaked.

A MAN WITHOUT
I am not.

I think of words which contain

Why Passion is not;

Why You cannot.

A word from you

Could do good things.

But you said nothing, until now.

This litany is for You.

You---out of my world---you!

This is about you;

Nothing is as is,

But I am.
